Instructions – Read Me First
In general, the process of distributing Mom’s Christmas items will be less formal than the system we used previously. Some of this we’ll be figuring out as we go along. So, your input, questions, and patience are always appreciated.
DEADLINE
The deadline for submitting what items you’d like is Sunday, September 29, 2024.
First Things First – Item Numbers
The best thing you can do when you want something is to give me its item number. Here’s how to find the item number.
EXAMPLE: Let’s say you want the black sprig of holly on the left side of this group.
The number of the tote that the item is in will always be in the bottom lefthand corner. In this case, it’s Tote Number 01.
There’s a sticky note with the Letter A pointing at the item. That’s the item’s corresponding letter in that tote.
The number under the letter indicates how many we have. In the case of the holly, we have 13.
Put them together and for the holly example, the item # is 01A (of which we have 13).
So in the order form, you will put this:
If you see a sticky note that doesn’t have a number on it, assume there is only one of that item.
You do not have to tell me how many you want. I will always assume you want as many of whatever item possible.
How the Photos are Organized
On the menu below and at the top of the page, you can see that we have organized all the photos into themes. Some important notes on this…
- The categories are not perfect. The totes were roughly packed by groupings. They are not perfect. As such, the categories themselves are not 100% perfect. For example:
- There are silver items packed with the angels.
- There are some snowflakes mixed in with the gold stuff.
- There are serving pieces shaped like snowmen with the snowman stuff.
- Rule of Thumb – go through all the pictures despite their category. You’ll never know what you’ll find.
How Do I Communicate What I Want to You?
It’s easy! At the right of each page (bottom on mobile), there’s a form. Just fill it out and an email will be sent to me. For the Tote # and Item Letter, you can add multiple items by clicking the "+" button to add a row. Feel free to add as many rows as you need. This way, you will generally submit one form entry per theme page, though you are welcome to send multiple emails from the same category as need be. Remember, the website does not have a cart. You must send an email from each category you want items from. If you leave a category without sending a message, your items will be lost.
IMPORTANT: While item numbers are best, you can also use the comment area of the form to send general requests like:
- “I want as much purple stuff as possible.”
- “I take all the snowmen nobody else wants.”
- ‘Are there any candles and candle holders left?”
ALSO IMPORTANT: If there is something that you gave grandma, and you want it, please note that. It’s crucial.
What Happens When Two People Want the Same Item?
Good question! We don’t have a 100% solid answer yet and won’t until your requests come in. We anticipate that some negotiations will have to happen. Please approach these eventual compromises from a place of kindness. All that being said:
- First priority will always go to people who want an item they once gifted to Grandma. So be sure to note that in your messages.
- Second priority will go to people who submit specific item numbers.
- Third priority will go to general requests like “I want as many bows as possible.”
Remember, we have about 30 people to serve, so please be judicious in your requests and please don’t ask for every item in a given category.
Beyond that, we’ll see. In the end remember, your requests are not guaranteed, but we’ll do our best to be as fair as possible.
Lastly…
This is the last of all Mom/Grandma’s possessions we have to distribute. So, think carefully and make your requests as clear as possible.
Also, please note that in the Miscellaneous section, item 23D were ornaments handmade by Mitch in the 1970s. These are very special things to consider.
